How The Media Feeds Into The Fear Of Childbirth

So recently myself and my husband watched an episode of ‘not going out’ on the TV. In this episode, Lee, Daisy and Lucy are on a skiing holiday but Lucy has had an accident, putting her arms in plaster. The three of them are in a cable car which gets stuck, so now they are stuck with a heavily pregnant woman who speaks little English. With Lucy incapacitated and Daisy obsessed with a stray bird it is down to Lee to act as midwife - which he does admirably even though he was not expecting triplets.

Now when this lady is in labour, she is screaming and obviously in pain. Once again the media depicts labour as an intense, stressful occurrence when in reality labour doesn’t have to be this way at all.

Is it any wonder women are scared and tense when it comes to giving birth, they are already expecting it to be a stressful experience.

The media often gives a false representation of what it is like. Women are conditioned to believe its going to be the most painful experience of their lives. Ladies your labour is only going to stressful and painful if you are not relaxed, tensed up and believe it to be this way.

I say let’s educate women around the globe, so our daughters and their daughters can grow up to feel confident and excited about birth.

I have posted a link to the episode for you to watch.
